However, according to estimates from the Embassy of Spain in Abu Dhabi, the actual number could exceed 14,000 Spaniards living in the country, because many do not register in the Consular Registration Register (RMC).
The Embassy of Spain recommends that all Spanish residents in the United Arab Emirates register in the Consular Registration Register (RMC). This procedure is mandatory for those who transfer their residence abroad, and its registration implies registration in the Register of Spanish Residents Abroad (PERE), which in turn causes a reduction in the register of their previous place of residence in Spain.
Making this registration not only helps to obtain a more accurate figure of the Spanish population in the United Arab Emirates, but it is also key in case of emergencies, since it allows the Spanish authorities to know the location and situation of their citizens. In addition, the Embassy will be able to provide advice and assistance in case of need.
A fundamental aspect is the registration of minors, since many parents omit this procedure without considering that it is crucial to guarantee their protection and access to consular services.
With the objective of improving care for citizens, the Embassy continues to modernize its services, implementing new digital tools that will transform administrative management. These digital services are expected to be fully operational by 2025.

Once registered in the Consular Registration Register, you will be able to access various consular services in the United Arab Emirates, including:
- Consular procedures: Application for a passport, certificates of residence, proof of life and status, electronic certificates and criminal records.
- Official communications: Receive relevant information from the Embassy.
- Civil Registry: Registration of births, marriages and preservation or nationality option.
- Right to vote: Participation in general, European Parliament and regional elections through the CERA vote.
