The car market in Dubai is particularly interesting, as it offers considerably lower prices compared to Europe. In this blog, we'll guide you through the paperwork and costs associated with importing a car from Dubai.
You can read a successful case of exporting a car from Dubai to Spain on our blog.
Before starting, you should know that to export from Dubai you will have to do it through a company in Dubai that buys and sells cars. Here are some examples:
-Dubizzle
Travel to Dubai to inspect, pay and sign the purchase agreement. You could also skip this part if you know someone you trust there who can do it for you or you think the condition of the car is correct.
Next, the former owner must go to the RTA (Highway and Transportation Authority) to remove the vehicle, where a prior inspection will be carried out so that everything corresponds to the relevant documentation.
The former owner must request a driving authorization at the Traffic Police office, in order to move the vehicle to the port of Dubai. In this case, the vehicle can be transported by a tow truck or you will have to take out weekly insurance so that it can be transported to the port.
Contact a company that transports the car from Dubai to Spain.
To the company you decided to hire, the person who sold you the vehicle must submit the following documents:
- Your ID
- Vehicle technical data sheet
- Copy of your passport
- Purchase and sale agreement
- Transfer record showing the vehicle in your name
Finally, you have to pay the fee and deliver the vehicle in your name to the shipping company.
Once you have completed all the above process and the vehicle is already in Spain, you will have to carry out the following process:
You must submit a DUA (Single Administrative Document). Right now you are going to pay the corresponding internal taxes (VAT) and customs duties, where to do so they will ask you:
- GO
- Purchase and sale agreement
- Car documentation
- Bill of Lading
Once finished, you must take it to pass the ITV, so they can verify that it meets all Spanish traffic conditions. You'll need to submit:
- Driver's license
- Car data sheet
- The invoice or purchase-sale contract
- Proof of payment for customs procedures
- European Certificate of Conformity (CoC), which is given to you when you buy the car
Pay the road tax, at the city council, and the special tax on certain modes of transport (IEDMT), at the tax agency.
Go to the DGT to pay the registration fees and submit:
- Purchase and sale agreement
- Vehicle technical data sheet
- Proof of customs payments and corresponding taxes.
Finally, once you have finished all the process, they will put the vehicle in your name, assign you a license plate and give you the permit.
The general costs you must face are: the price of the car, change of owner and registration for export, transportation within the country of origin, shipping, and the costs of importing, inspecting and registering the vehicle.
Pre-export inspection: 120 AED (30€)
RTA fee for changing the record: 60 AED (15€)
